Roger Doe’s workshop records confirm that a bow of this description and bearing the number 425 was made by him in July 1994.

Roger Doe (1937-2024) came to bow making as a string player (cello and bass viol).  He was trained by Arthur Bultitude, a renowned English bowmaker from the famous W E Hill & Sons workshop.

He was  mainly involved in teaching and chamber music, especially in the Early Music field (both baroque and classical). Therefore,  the precise playing experience of each bow he made was very  important to him, ensuring each bow had both liveliness and expressiveness.
