One-piece slab-cut back of medium flame. Spruce front with fine even grain. Ebony fingerboard, tailpiece, and chinrest, with rosewood pegs. Mid-amber-orange oil brush applied varnish. Length of back; 35.4 cm String length 32.8 cm. Stop length 19.6 cm
Based on Guarneri del Gesu’s ‘Henry Holst’, 1742 violin. Fitted with carbon fibre soundpost, made by the maker.
Henry Holst (1899-1991) was a Danish violinist. From the 1930s to the mid-1950s he was based in England, as a soloist and teacher. He held professorships at the Royal Manchester College of Music and the Royal College of Music in London. From 1946, he owned a violin made by Joseph Guarneri made 1742 , in Cremona, Italy.
