Louis Emile Jérôme Thibouville came from a family of long tradition (17th century) woodwind and brass instrument makers in the traditional instrument-making town of La Couture-Boussey.
In 1857, spotting an opportunity in the growing market for stringed musical instruments, he joined forces with the Mirecourt company Husson-Buthod. Four years later he married in to the Lamy family and the firm became known as Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy or J.T.L.
Their Medio-Fino range of instruments were made in the Mirecourt and the turn on the 19th/ 20th century and were aimed at the entry level market and were very popular.
