Hans Johannsson Fine Violin For Sale, 1989
This Hans Johannsson violin, made in 1989, is currently available for sale through Moseley Violins in Birmingham, UK. An exceptional early example by the distinguished Icelandic maker Hans Johannsson, offering a rare opportunity to acquire an instrument from the formative period of a career that would later earn international recognition.
Having graduated with distinction from the Newark School of Violin Making in 1980, Johannsson established workshops in both Iceland and Luxembourg shortly thereafter, beginning a lifelong exploration of violin making that has remained rooted in originality, craftsmanship, and acoustic curiosity. Rather than producing direct copies of historical instruments, he developed his own models from the outset, a commitment to an individual artistic vision that has remained a hallmark of his work throughout his career.
This violin was commissioned at his workshop in the picturesque 12th century castle Château de Bourglinster in Luxembourg. The commission marked the beginning of a warm and enduring friendship between maker and owner, adding a charming personal dimension to the instrument’s history.
Musically, the violin is every bit as compelling as its provenance suggests. Beautifully balanced throughout its range, it produces a rich, warm and velvety tone effortlessly. Its singing quality is complemented by excellent clarity, responsiveness and projection.
A rare opportunity to own an early work by one of the most original and respected violin makers of the modern era.
